Weather

UPDATED 3/15
The weather is forecast to be fairly pleasant for our wedding weekend! Expect highs around 70ºF and lows around 55ºF, and no rain. Layers are always still a good idea—nighttime can feel kind of cold still.
If you're getting into town early, the forecast shows the weekdays hitting the mid 80s ºF, which is unusually warm by SF standards.
San Francisco can be surprisingly chilly. For March, expected temperatures range from the low 50sºF (10ºC) to the mid 60sºF (16ºC).
Weather is a gamble: it may be rainy, foggy, cloudy, or sunny.
We recommend layers and sweaters, not shorts!
Airports

SFO is the closest major airport. It's very modern and security is usually fast.
To get from SFO into the city, we suggest rideshare (Lyft or Uber) or public transit (BART).
OAK is a similar distance away, but going to/from there requires an extra transfer (if taking BART) or a bridge toll (westbound, if taking rideshare or driving).
SJC is significantly farther from SF. It will take an extra ~1 hour of driving to get to SF.
Getting to Palette Tea House
Palette Tea House is located in Ghirardelli Square at 900 North Point Street, San Francisco, California. Specifically, it is at the southern side of Ghirardelli Square, on the ground level, just off the central plaza where the fountain is.
Here's a map of Ghirardelli Square, with arrows marking different walking paths to Palette Tea House:

If you're driving, Ghirardelli Square has an underground parking garage. You can enter from either Larkin Street or North Point Street, and it's open until midnight. Regular pricing is as follows:
- 0-3 hours: $18
- 3-4 hours: $28
- 4+ hours: +$6 per hour
- 12-24 hours: $52 (daily rate)
Warnings about driving and parking

If you're flying in, we do not recommend renting a car unless you have a strong reason to do so.
Parking in SF is generally challenging or expensive, although there will be parking available at our venue (see "Getting to Palette Tea House" above).
If you street park, check for time limits, street sweeping hours, and red curbs.
⚠️ Never leave anything in your car! Break-ins have historically happened frequently, especially in popular tourist areas.
Getting around in San Francisco

We encourage using public transit to get around SF!
You can pay fares on transit by tapping a credit or debit card upon boarding.
Muni is the main public transit system within SF. It includes a variety of vehicles:
- Light rail (J, K, L, M, N, and T lines)
- Buses (numbered routes, e.g., the 22 bus)
- Historic streetcars (F line)
- Historic cable cars
BART is a separate regional rail system that happens to run through parts of SF, paralleling the MUNI light rail lines along Market Street in downtown.
You don't have to tap off on Muni, but you do have to tap to exit BART stations.
As an alternative to paying by credit or debit card, you can use a Clipper card, which can be set up digitally in Apple Wallet or Google Pay, or purchased at a vending machine.
Waymo's autonomous cars are a fun way to get around the city. Prices are usually only a little more expensive than Lyft or Uber. There is no waitlist to use Waymo in SF, so you can just download the app and call a car.
Lodging in San Francisco
For the best convenience, we'd recommend staying in the Fisherman's Wharf area. This area is very tourist-friendly and close to our venue.
The main neighborhood to avoid is the Tenderloin, highlighted in red in the map below. We would also recommend avoiding the yellow highlighted regions.
Union Square has many hotels and is convenient to transit on Market Street, but note that it is next to the Tenderloin. Union Square itself is not bad, but you'll want to avoid going too far west. It's also a bit farther from our venue.
You could also consider staying outside SF, particularly near SFO.
Please feel free to ask us if you're unsure!
Our map below is not comprehensive, just what we have first- or secondhand experience with. There are definitely many great hotels that are not on our map!
We are crowdsourcing hotel recommendations! If you have any hotel experiences to add to our map, please let us know!
Some of our favorite things to do and see in San Francisco
- Ride a cable car to the Cable Car Museum!
- Note that the single ride fare is pretty expensive ($9), so if you're going to ride the cable cars more than once, it's worth it to buy the 1-day visitor passport in the MuniMobile app for $15. (Ref)
- The Cable Car Museum itself is free and extremely cool. You get to see the machinery that powers all the cable cars in SF!
- Spend a few hours in Golden Gate Park
- Rent a rowboat on Blue Heron Lake
- Take a walk along JFK Promenade
- Watch the cool flip board in the Ferry Building
- Enjoy the views from Crissy Field or Twin Peaks
- Get pineapple buns from Pineapple King Bakery in the Outer Sunset
- Pro tip: Order ahead on their website so you can stand in the short pickup line rather than the much longer normal line
- Get foccacia or pizza from Arizmendi Bakery in the Inner Sunset—Sharlene's favorite!
